Camp Notes and Shinsa Results

On behalf of Mitsuzuka Munehiro sensei and myself, we wish to congratulate all attending SSK members for a successful and memorable camp! We know some of you risked hardship and even danger to attend. For those of you who suffered losses, our hopes and prayers are with you for a quick return to normalcy.
Congratulations to all who tested! We are proud of you. Not everyone is willing to open themselves up to critique by their peers. We appreciate your commitment and courage. If the test were evaluated solely on spirit, every candidate would surely have passed, however, we must take into consideration many other areas of the testing performance! We and the instructors of the students that need to retest are committed to working closely with you to help you achieve the level you tested for. We apologize for not getting the chance to formally announce the results of the test, as we finished late in the day and most people left right after dinner to avoid the approaching storm.

Summer Camp Deadline!
The deadline for postmarking your Summer Camp registration to be eligible for the lower rate is tomorrow, Monday the 15th.
Also, Peter Boylan of Mugendo Budogu has confirmed his attendance again this year. Make sure to bring some spending money, because you will be tempted by his quality budo goods, as well as the usual offering of San Shin Kai curriculum DVDs.

May 28 Seminar Slots Open
The May 28th Iaido seminar at the Crosswinds Karate Kai in Hazleton has a few spots open. This 3 hour seminar (11:00-2:00) will cover fine points of technique along with kata.

March Seminar, 3/12/11
There will be a three-hour iaido seminar on Saturday, March 12th, from 11:00 am — 2:00 pm at the Crosswinds dojo in Hazleton, PA. This seminar will cover general fine points of technique and kata of MSR. It is open to everyone and will count as one of the required seminars for testing. Camp is just 7 months away! Camp Wrap-Up
Two and a half (ish) days, 50+ attendees, tempting goods from Mugendo Budogu, and a fine shinsa capstone -- another terrific San Shin Kai camp. This time, without added goats.

I filmed this new video in December 2008 at a seminar I taught in Pennsylvania. It is 3 hours of raw footage. There is no menu or chaptering. I felt the need to share this kata with everyone who practices Iai. It is outside the Iaido circle, in fact, more in the Iai jutsu realm. I learned this kata over 25 years ago. The name of the kata is "Tsuzukeru Ugoki katana" or "continuous movement sword." It is a standing kata with 35 continuous moves in multiple directions and would be an excellent addition to any Iai students practice. It can also be used as a competition kata or a demonstration kata.
The 2 DVD set includes: Kata, bunkai and as a bonus all of the seven Omori Ryu nukitsuke. The kata is taught step by step adding moves as the previous moves have been learned. There is also some bunkai of the techniques.
